Ed Stewart at the Phab Awards, House of Lords, October 2015

Ed Stewart, President of Phab

(23rd April 1941 – 9th January 2016)

All of us at Phab are deeply shocked by the very sad news of Ed Stewart’s sudden death in Bournemouth on 9th January. Ed was involved with Phab for over forty years and became President of the Charity in 2002. He regularly attended and officiated at the start of Phab’s annual sponsored Heartbeat Hike in Hyde Park cheering and supporting the participants along the route. He had time for everyone and posed with Phab members for numerous photographs, judging the fancy dress costumes and banners with huge enthusiasm and many a joke. He was hugely supportive of all those who ran in aid of Phab at London Marathon events, cheering them on from the stands at the finishing line in the Mall and greeting them personally in St James’s Park after the event to thank them. In 2009 he appeared on Celebrity Cash in the Attic raising several thousands of pounds for the Charity. As a keen golfer he supported Phab’s charity golf days and acted as a most enthusiastic and persuasive auctioneer encouraging ever larger bids to increase much needed fundraising for Phab! Ed regularly introduced the celebrity readers at Phab’s annual London Charity Carol Concert, performed by the London Orpheus Choir. Most recently he presented a reading and introduced celebrity readers:  Baroness Floella Benjamin, Anita Dobson, Shirley Anne Field and Mik Scarlet at the Carol Concert in December at St James’s Church, Piccadilly. We enjoyed listening to the many old favourites on his hugely popular Junior Choice Show this Christmas Day – he even dedicated a song to one of Phab’s volunteers. Ed will be deeply missed by all the members, staff and Trustees of Phab and we are thinking of his family and friends at this very sad time. John Corless OBE, Chairman of Phab

Supported By - Portrait BBC Children in Need have once again supported our Residential Projects program with a very generous grant of £35,000.  This much-needed grant has enabled us to welcome even more children and young people to our Projects this year and we thank Pudsey, BBC Children in Need and all their supporters for helping us to give these children such a very special time away with Phab.
BLF logo small black WDSA_revised_logo Big Lottery Fund Awards for All have made a grant of £9,940 to Phab for an exciting new project – the Hearts and Wheels Project – which we will be delivering with the Wheelchair Dance Sport Association (UK).  This new project will introduce wheelchair dance sport to Phab Clubs and other community organisations in the South East and Greater London areas over the coming year, whilst enabling us to develop our partnership with Wheelchair Dance Sport Association (UK) and hopefully expand the opportunity  to other regions in the future.  We are most grateful to the Big Lottery Fund for supporting the project and look forward to working with Wheelchair Dance Sport Association (UK) to deliver it.
