Go all out in Manchester: Flat, fast & friendly!
The Manchester Marathon is known for its flat route (another good one for PBs as well as first timers), and incredible atmosphere. It is the 2nd biggest in the UK and 4th most popular in Europe with over 40,000 runners.
What are the highlights?
- As the UK’s second-largest marathon, trailing only London, it is celebrated for its exceptionally fast, flat course and legendary local atmosphere.
- With less than 50m of elevation gain, it is considered the UK’s flattest major marathon, making it a top choice for runners aiming for a PB.
- The course typically starts near Old Trafford (home of Manchester United) and passes through the city centre, including sights like the Beetham Tower, before finishing at the University of Manchester on Oxford Road.
- The event features a relay option for teams of two or four, allowing participants to share the 26.2-mile distance.
