Phab’s Volunteer Awards at House of Lords 2017

Phab’s annual Volunteer Awards Reception took place in the Cholmondeley Room at The House of Lords, Westminster, on October 5th to acknowledge the outstanding contribution to Phab from over 20 nominated volunteers from across England and Wales.

The event, in this special Diamond Jubilee Year, was kindly hosted by The Baroness Thomas of Winchester MBE, in the absence of Phab’s Vice President, Lady Campbell of Surbiton DBE. 

John Corless OBE, Chairman of Phab, welcomed special guests Princess Katya Galitzine, Lady Irene Morris and Penny Mordaunt MP, Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work.

Five awards were made and all nominees received a dedicated certificate to recognise their individual achievements:

Louis Goldberg Award nominees were Carina Fletcher, Abbey Parsons, Zoe Webber, Georgia Bourne, Alice Gamby and the winner was Steven Scott from Torquay Phab (below).

Paul Hope Award nominees were Lynne Wilson, Amanda Corden, Malcolm Rice-Jones, Leanne Holdcroft, Kate Johnson, David Haydon, Iris Clear, Darren Cowley, Sally Newby, Slavko Andrejczak, Karin Redgate and the winner was Akbar Khan, leader of Bradford Phab (pictured below).

The Lord Morris of Manchester Award, presented by Lady Irene Morris, was awarded to Sheilagh Marsh and Julie Rose (below) who jointly provide the vital support of Phab Week nurse at Merchant Taylors’ School which hosts a Phab week each year together with St Helen’s School.

Two special Awards were made to celebrate Phab’s Diamond Jubilee year. The Diamond Jubilee Award was presented to Kathy Bryan MBE, leader of Central London Phab (pictured at the top). And finally, the Princess Galitzine Award was presented by Princess Katya Galitzine in memory of her mother to Beverley and Barrie Ames, the leaders of Woking Phab (Barrie pictured below receiving the award from Princess Katya on behalf of them both).
